In the center of the village stands an 11th-century Georgian church — a two-nave basilica (corrected by G. Bagrationi) with an Asomtavruli inscription on its east wall: "this church was built in the days when Lasha sat as king". The accession of the "lord of the Javakhs" was specially recorded at Baraleti. Since basilicas were no longer being built in Georgia by that time (1213), the record probably refers to the restoration or repair of an earlier church. East of the village, near the abandoned village of Sirgvi, stands a well-preserved stela 6 meters high.
