Burnasheti is a village in Akhalkalaki municipality, in the northern part of the Akhalkalaki plateau, on the left bank of the Zhiruli River, 1,900 m above sea level, 22 km from Akhalkalaki. People lived at Burnasheti as early as the pre-feudal era; the village's old name must have been "Burnasheni". The village preserves a large hall-type church with a gateway of paired arches. Thanks to its size and strength the church is comparatively well preserved. By its architectural-decorative forms and the reliefs of its east facade it must have been built no later than the 10th century. Two inscriptions survive (10th and 13th centuries), one on the church's east facade, the other in the interior on the north wall. The relief on the east side, showing St. Daniel in the lions' den, reads: "Lord, as Thou didst save Daniel from the mouth of the lions, save the builders of this holy church from the hands of hell." Among the village's monuments of material culture a large stone cross also deserves mention.
