Monastery Monastery

The earliest of the buildings is the 8th-century church standing on the west, the burial inside which is considered the grave of Archil son of Stepanoz, erismtavari of Kartli (719–745). Later, apparently in the High Middle Ages, a second church was built at the first one's northeast corner in such a way that its south wall lies on the line of the original church's north wall, its southwest corner abutting the original church's northeast corner. In the 17th–18th centuries a tower was built in front of the original church, completely covering its east facade and more than half the south facade of the second church. The wine cellar, a dwelling and the enclosure wall must belong to the same period
