The Udzo monastery stands at Kojori, on Mount Udzo, 1,420 m above sea level, commanding a most beautiful view. Architecturally it is of hall type and belongs to the Middle Ages, though it has not survived in its original form. Vakhushti Bagrationi wrote of it: "Udzo, a church of St. George, upon a high hill, looking out over Kojori and Tbilisi." Legend has it that the church was built by a childless (udzeo) man who begged the Lord for a son — and his prayer was granted. Ever since, childless women have come here to pray. The feast of Udzooba is held every year on the Tuesday after Easter. A monastery for monks is now active here.
