The Church of the Mother of God of Akhaldaba is a hall structure (9.7 × 7.2 m) built of rubble stone. The building's corners are laid with tuff; the vault, transverse arch and conch are of brick. The entrance — arched inside, topped by an architrave outside — is in the west wall. On the axis of the semicircular apse is an arched window. Tall arched openings on either side of the sanctuary connect it with small chambers set into the wall — the prothesis and the diaconicon.
