Zedazeni was a waterless place, and the deacon Ilia carried water from afar every day. Seeing this, St. Ioane (one of the Assyrian Fathers) asked the Lord to bring forth a spring — and indeed the Lord heard his prayer, and a healing spring rose on the mountaintop. A bear took to visiting the spring; through St. Ioane's prayer the beast was tamed, and from then on the predators dwelling in the Zedazeni forest did people no harm.
