An ancient shrine, the church of St. George, a monument of Georgian architecture on the pass of the watershed ridge between the Ksani and Aragvi rivers (Dusheti municipality). It belongs to the 9th–10th centuries. By tradition the name is linked to the ox Loma. It is supposed that Lomisa was originally a temple of the lunar cult; the Christian church was built on the site of the pagan temple. Lomisa was the foremost shrine of the people of Mtiuleti and the Ksani valley; many economic, political and military matters were settled here. The building is a simple three-church basilica in plan (14.5 × 7.8 m), built of rubble stone. The covering vault rests on a transverse arch raised on pilasters. Niches are set into the long walls. Around the church survive the remains of buildings of various purposes. South of the church stands a two-story bell tower of the late Middle Ages, built of rubble stone. Only its northern half now survives (both piers of the first story and parts of the outer piers of the second). On the second story the piers are somewhat narrower, with one similar pier set between them. The bell tower's first story was covered with a low vault; the form of the second story's roof cannot be established.
