At the end of the 19th century 36 households lived in the village; in the 1920s there were still 27 (43 inhabitants), of the Tilidze, Gatsiridze and Mishidze families. Later, in the Soviet period, the village slowly emptied completely. Like the residents of other villages, some of the people of Kvavlo resettled in Kakheti.
